MK-vs-DC

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe released in 2008 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, developed and published by Midway and Warner Bros using the Unreal Engine 3.
I just love it when my favorite tournament fighting video game franchise and my favorite comic book franchise combine into one crossover! Its just like Marvel vs Capcom (which Capcom is the creators of the Street Fighter franchise), I bet you that’s where they got the idea from, but this time its with my favorites from each category! And i love the idea of a crossover between Mortal Kombat and DC Universe!
DC Universe can also be known as Justice League, in an alternative title Mortal Kombat vs. Justice League.
The game haves an interesting fighting style, the gameplay mechanics are decent, and it haves an interesting storyline combining the two factions together with something more original outside their realms!
It haves 22 characters out of all, 20 selectable and 2 unlockable, (which the two unlockables are Shao Kahn and Darkseid)!

Choose_Your_Side

The story between the factions is this spell called “RAGE” which can drive any of these fighters to go insane against anyone including your allies in both realms, and RAGE causes a fighter from one realm to invade the other realm, and each fighter haves there own quest, the main perpetrator behind the cause of this RAGE spell is “Dark Kahn” who is the main villain in the again, and most evil of all! I believe that powers of both of the main villains of each faction Shao Kahn and Darkseid were inherit by Dark Kahn! Dark Kahn of course is also the main boss in the arcade tournament mode as well, unlike every other character from both factions, Dark Kahn from what i know is the only original character in the game.

RAGE can also be a special power for any fighter and it makes you immune from other attack for a brief moment, once you built your two yellow bars up and decide to use it!
The tournament arcade mode is like other Mortal Kombat games, except you have three tournament choices to chose from after you select your fighter, either the MK, DC or Mixed (which combines random opponents from both factions). As i mention Dark Kahn is the main boss in this game always, and the sub-bosses are Shao Kahn of MK and Darkseid of DC!
The only the big issue with this game is that they give the game a T rating, you know why? because there is no blood or gore! Theirs still fatalities which are none gory and most of these fatalities do look weak, and the fatalities only apply to MK characters and the DC villains, the DC heroes haves this thing called heroic brutalities, which does make sense for the heroes, because they don’t kill. And like other MK games they each have to finishing moves (except for Shao Kahn and Darkseid, the main villains from each faction, and they are unlockable and playable, but they have no finishers)
I kinda understand why they don’t the blood and gore, because the game haves superheroes in it, and superheroes and comicbooks are targeted towards kids! So i guess it does make sense!
Another thing i wish they could have done is have more characters for each faction (or at least DLC)
Overall this game i wouldn’t say its great, but i says it good, and it was a wonderful idea to combine both realms together.
And this game is also a idea for a bright new future for the Mortal Kombat franchise, as well as DC Universe franchise!
After all this is the last Mortal Kombat game Midway’s been involved with, because they filed for bankruptcy a year later, and Midway franchise was bought by Warner Bros, and for the Mortal Kombat franchise is was re-branded by NetherRealm Studios in 2010, and the creative directer and key people of NetherRealm studios is Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon.

So Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios rebooted the Mortal Kombat franchise, by calling in Mortal Kombat, some people call it Mortal Kombat 9, because its the installment in the series (not including the spin offs or updated games) but 1,2,3,4, 5 Deadly Alliance, 6. Deception, 7. Armageddon, 8 MK. vs. DC universe and 9. the 2011 reboot.  Get the picture now!

I believe they were actually rebooting the franchise for the ninth game by combining the first trilogy of the Mortal Kombat series into one big game for the modern generation with an interesting story mode involving the first trilogy! And it also have the classic arcade mode as well and vs. mode! They also have a Tag Team tournament of vs. mode Plus the Krypt for unlockable like from the previous generation of MK games. Plus there’s a Challenge tower where you have to complete certain tasks. It also haves these mini games such as Test you might, test your sight, the slot machine where it decides on the effects for both fighters before the round starts. They also have the 6 icon code thing during the vs. menu, i believe it only works in vs. modes (in other words for 2 or more players)

Then in 2013 NetherRealm Studios released a fighting game for the DC Universe, “Injustice: Gods Among Us”. And in 2015 this coming April a new Mortal Kombat game is set to release in April “Mortal Kombat X”
Anyway i will try to get into reviewing the the NetherRealms games eventually, but i’m just saying that “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe” was a link to a bright future for both franchises since Warner Bros now owns both!
